Rules / Information

  • TLDR: Behave!
  • The CTF will run from Fri 08 Aug 2025 18:00 CEST to Mon 11 Aug 2025 18:00 CEST
  • The registration will open at the start of the CTF
  • All flags will have the layout of flag{MD5} and are case insensitive.
  • During the CTF the registration page will stay open for any teams who want to join after the CTF started.
  • WHY2025 CTF is a Jeopardy style CTF, there is no need to set up VPN environment.
  • There is no limit in the number of people participating per team. You only need one registration per team.
  • Sharing flags or solutions is prohibited. This action is subject to disqualification.
  • Attacking machines other than designated WHY2025 CTF machines is strictly prohibited.
  • If you are sure that you have the valid flag but the system rejects it, please contact us.
  • If you find any bug in the CTF environment, please report it to us.
  • If you are not sure if something is a violation of the rules, ask us!
  • WHY2025 CTF will not contain any bonus points.
  • Brute forcing against the WHY2025 CTF infra is not allowed.
  • Using webscanners such as Nikto, Nessus or Dirbuster will not help you solve the challenges.
  • If any cracking is needed this can be done well within an hour on a standard PC.
  • There will be no Trivia questions or 4 hour Google recon sessions.
  • There will be no hidden challenges.
  • This CTF is suitable for first time players, feel free to register and start with any 50 points challenge. If you get stuck or don't know how to start, you can contact us for directions.

Onsite CTF Tent

During WHY2025 all CTF players are welcome to keep us company in the CTF-tent, where it is possible to play the onsite CTF challenges and hack all day and (partly) night with same-minded people. You can find us on the Deep Purple Field "under" the Track Brachium tent.

Secret Token game

Next to the CTF, we also organise the Secret Token game. The Secret Token game consists of hidden tokens and mini-puzzles which can be found all over the WHY2025 field. Playing the Secret Token game is a nice way of getting out of the tents and visit other parts of the WHY2025 fields. For more info see the Secret Token Game Website.
