There will be a CTF at WHY2025!
There will once again be a CTF at WHY2025! From the same team that brought you the CTF on OHM2013, SHA2017 & MCH2022. After some years of well-earned rest we will be back to do the same stuff, but even more awesome this time. Like the MCH2022 edition, we will have both online and onsite CTF challenges. Our CTF will once again include a lot of challenges for players who never played a CTF before, so it will be fun for all participants.
Secret Token game
Next to the CTF, we will also again organize the Secret Token game during the event. The Secret Token game consists of hidden tokens and mini-puzzles which can be found all over the WHY2025 field. Playing the Secret Token game is a nice way of getting out of the tents and visit other parts of the WHY2025 fields. More information on the Secret Token game will be provided later on its own website, which will then be linked here as well.
Onsite CTF tent
During WHY2025 all CTF players are welcome to keep us company in the CTF-tent, where it is possible to play the onsite CTF challenges and hack all day and night with same-minded people.
Teaser round
The weekend from Friday the 21st of March 20:00 till Sunday the 23rd of March 20:00, a WHY2025 CTF Teaser round took place. A 48-hour sneak preview of the CTF that is being created for WHY2025 this summer. During the teaser 223 teams/players joined us to take a look at what they can expect from the CTF on WHY2025. From those teams 81 teams managed to solve at least one challenge. Teams were very enthusiastic and were active till the very end of the teaser, with the last solves happening right before the end. In the last minutes even the top 10 changed and the total number of teams which scored points jumped from 80 to 81.
The first player that finished all the challenges was "GOBBLES" and thus became the winner of the CTF teaser, followed by "Morbion" and "bah" completing the top 3. In the end 5 teams managed to solve all of the challenges of the teaser. See the scoreboard for all scores.
The challenges in the teaser included a WHY2025 flyer generator, a website with an overview of all the previous hacker camps, the traffic of a label printer, a ransomware attack and a website with an SQL injection. Two of the challenges were specifically made for less experienced players to make sure the CTF could be enjoyed by anyone. During the teaser we saw a lot of first-time players, which were positively surprised that they were able to solve some of the challenges in the CTF. We will use the same approach for the main CTF at WHY2025 with challenges for both beginner and experienced players to make sure everyone will be able to have fun playing the CTF.
If you did not manage to solve all of the challenges or missed the teaser then don’t worry, we will bring back the challenges for the main CTF on WHY2025. There you will be able to give them another try, together with a lot of other challenges, including onsite-only challenges such as lockpicking. We hope to see you in the CTF tent on WHY2025!
